Victory beyond Competition
Athletes in Action

Are Australians 'Sports Mad'?

What other nation of 20 million people could be so consistently high in the medals tally at international competitions?

Many would argue that “Sports is religion” in Australia.

To reach this vigourous nation with the good news about Jesus the sporting world must be factored in. Sports play too much of a role in the average Australian’s life to be ignored or neglected.

Athletes In Action (AIA) seeks to use this obsession within sports to further the cause of the greatest champion who ever lived--Jesus of Nazareth. This goal will be accomplished at the most basic level…by working personally with sports people as strategic influencers… "connecting, winning, building, training, and sending" them into their specific sports community.

AIA is the national sports ministry of Campus Crusade for Christ Australia. As such, it shares the common mission of seeking to establish movements throughout Australia so that everyone knows someone who truly follows Jesus .

Outreach Sports Clinics

Throughout its' Australian history, AIA has been involved in providing sports clinics with a difference--the opportunity to learn new skills in one's chosen sport...while finding out more about Jesus from the clinic coaches.

Jason Smith--Boomer, King and Servant

King Serves the King of Kings

As a Strategic Influencer through Athletes in Action, Sydney Kings captain and Australian Boomers star Jason Smith is fully aware of the platform for mission that God has given to him.

Jason's immense popularity among Australians has opened wide the doors for his personal ministry--especially now, having recently made a huge contribution to the Boomers gold medal in the recent Commonwealth Games. With the help of mentor and AIA chaplain Gary Speckman, Smith desires to be “someone who truly follows Jesus".

In a recent article, published on the front sports page of a major national newspaper and later featured on the Kings' fan website, he talks openly about the influence his relationship with Jesus has had on his life. Jason is truly a King who serves the true King of Kings.
